It never ceases to amaze me just how excited my patients are on the day their braces come off and/or the day that they complete Invisalign treatment. One of the most frequently asked questions on that great day for many of these patients is “How can I make my smile even nicer by whitening my teeth a few shades lighter?” At Winning Smiles Orthodontics, we view teeth whitening as a beautiful finishing touch to orthodontic treatment. We believe that by whitening the teeth post-orthodontic treatment, the smile becomes even more attractive, and our patients are even more eager to show off their beautiful new smiles.
Typically our recommendation is to have our patients wait two to four weeks post braces removal to have their teeth professionally cleaned. We then recommend that our patients wait another 1 or 2 weeks after their dental cleaning before initiating the teeth whitening process. This gives the gums a chance to heal and tighten back up to their natural shapes and contours first. This modest waiting period will allow for the most ideal time to get the best results from the dental whitening process.
Because teeth whitening has become such a popular request among our orthodontics patients, our office now regularly offers great specials to make tooth whitening very inexpensive and affordable to all of our orthodontics clients. The process begins with us taking impressions of the teeth to create a mold from which customized whitening trays can be fabricated. Once the trays are fit and delivered, we typically recommend that our patients wear their trays for approximately 2 hours per night for up to two weeks. This system creates a smile that is bright, white and very attractive for a long, long time.
“Teeth whitening is a very cost-effective, non-invasive cosmetic treatment that makes a significant difference in a patient’s appearance,” Dr. Brown says. “A beautiful smile goes a long way toward boosting self-confidence. Whitening one’s teeth, especially when combined with orthodontic treatment is a phenomenal way to create a beautiful, attractive smile.”
